ABOUT US
Bryan Shumway is the Key Principal of Melmac Properties LLC.
Since 2001, Bryan has been an affordable housing professional focused on preservation of affordable housing. He has been responsible for identifying and negotiating terms with institutional lending and investment partners for LIHTC projects throughout the country as well as underwriting, closing, planning and overseeing construction and stabilizing thousands of units throughout his career.
With early exposure to innovative financing tools like Section 236 IRP Decoupling and the early days of cash collateralized tax-exempt bond issuances, Bryan has come to appreciate the power that regulatory flexibility can have to achieve social goals like housing production and economic development. The ability to creatively work with existing resources to achieve new goals is one way that Melmac can add value to a project.
Bryan graduated with degrees in Economics and Statistics from the University of Rochester and with masters degrees in City Planning and Real Estate Development from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
He is a Trustee of the Scarborough (ME) Public Library and chairs the Facilities Committee, a board member of the Friends Rehabilitation Group (FRP), a Quaker non-profit housing group, and on the Loan Review Committee of Mercy Community Capital.
